  1. The match making custom is still observed in this district. The matchmakers go to the hoe of the bride and after the usual chat and conversation weather farming etc the match is proposed by the spokesman who generally takes a bottle of whiskey and with the production of the bottle generally introduces the match. Fortune etc are fixed and then they visit the town solicitor the following day and then arrangements are made with the parish priest who get 5% of the brides fortune for performing the ceremony and giving all the necessary papers.
There are in some cases wedding parties held in the brides home after the wedding and then the newly married couple go on their honey moon.
The wedding generally takes place in the early morning and the party receive Holy Communion but years ago the wedding used to take place in the evening and often after dark especially on Shrove Tuesday.
