  1. Peter Horgan, a native of Ayle, wrote the following poem in connection with the evictions at Castletown
    Castletown is about 3 miles from this school. Hehir was the landlord and Braddel the agent. Braddel was afterwards shot in Dobbin's Hotel Tipperary by the famour Michael (Mick) Hayes
    Hayes was paying a portion of the rent. Braddel refused to take it when he had not. The full amount; whereupon Hayes exclaimed "If you don't take that take this," and shot him instantly

    You muses divine come and aid me
    As I have been dreaming all night
    Of the late victory gained by the people
    Whose praises I'm going to -
    Whose name did not fail in the battle
    The English red flag they pulled down
