- Hidden Treasure
Treasure is supposed to be hidden between Knockmehil and Glenbeg in the parish of Upperchurch. There is also treasure hidden in Inch in the same parish. Bourke of Pallas near Borrisoleigh hid the full of his boot of gold there after assisting in the blowing up of King William's Siege Train at Ballyneety. He then rode away and rejoined Sarsfield's army before it reached Limerick.
When he returned to look for it he failed to find it. An attempt was made recently do dig up the treasure in Glenbeg by Jim Stapleton (30) and Eddie Weekes (20). They dug till they met a flagstone a hole in which caught their spade which had to be left in it.
The treasure hidden was gold or silver or valuable vessels.
Ned of the Hill who was educated at Paris for the priesthood but who later fought at the Siege of Limerick hid a boot of gold between Knockmehil Castle Upperchurch where he and his forefathers resided and Gortnaskeha when escaping from(continues on next page)- Collector
