    There is a well in the parish of Terryglass named St Roche's well. One day St Roche was in this certain field in Terryglass. He met an English General named Cromwell who was after crossing the Shannon in a boat. He also carried an knife with him. They started to talk about religion. After awhile Cromwell said to the Saint "Would you rather die for God than rather die for me." "I would rather die for God", said the Saint. Then Cromwell cut one of the Saint's eyes out, and asked him again, and the Saint said he would rather die for God. He cut another of his eyes out. Then the Saint
