  1. The De Veres of Curragh Chase.
    About the year 1800 many people in Ireland expected and hoped for a French invasion. De Vere Hunt who lived in Curragh Chase at that time eagerly awaited the coming of the Franch.
    He determined when they would come to help them in their fight against England. He recruited two regiments of soldiers from the peasantry and the tenants of the estate. He drilled and trained them on the estate.
