And how it came home I am going to relate,
And tell of a sportsman who was never afraid,
To walk to the slips with his dog Smart Brigade.Now of this great Cup there's a lot to be said,
'Tis for thirty-two dogs at a fiver a head
'Tis open to all to send up their best
There's barring on none from the east or the west
From the North or the South let them come as they may.
'Tis as true as its (?) old every dog has his day.
But when all were assembled and the odds had been laid
We challenged the field with the bold Smart BrigadeNow Carbery's Chieftain who came from the west
Was the first dog to get what we gave to the the rest.
Stout dog that he is, nor lacking in speed
But still we got there with three lengths of a lead
And Quirit (?) was famous last year as a pup -
This year, to his credit won the Tipperary Cup
But we were not long when we marked his bill paid
And he got his receipt from the bold Smart BrigadeBut the fight is not over there's a long way to go,
And good dogs are standing to make a brave show,
Ocean Border and Porthos were the pride of the City,(continues on next page)
