    He invoked the aid of prominent citizens and they worked zealously to achieve their end. Perhaps it was because of his magnetic personality, or perhaps entirely through the Providence of God, but after a number of years, they succeeded in acquiring, what was then known as the Cork Botanic Gardens, and which place is now St Joseph's Cemetery, where the mortal remains of Fr Theobald Matthew lie.
