  1. Old Customs
In the district of Cobh on St. Stephens Day boys and girls dress up and decorate a holly bush with paper ribbons.
They go round to the houses singing "Mr .... is a very good man
And to his house we brought the wran
The wran the wran as you may see
Is guarded up on a holly tree
A bunch of ribbons by his side
And the Cobh boys to be his bride
Although he's small his family's great
Rise up good people and give us a treat
    Hurrah me boys Hurrah "
They then knock at the doors and generally the people of the house give them money and they divide it between them. It is generally spent on giving themselves a treat.
    Shrove Tuesday
On Shrove Tuesday in every house pancakes are eaten. Children are afraid to go out as boys throw squibs and crackers on the streets.
