  1. (continued from previous page)
He was the last of the old Irish speakers and scholars of this district, being a fluent speaker of, and a talented writer in the old tongue. His old Irish poems, and manuscripts are unfortunately lost, but the following poems were obtained from his grandson, Mr Timothy OConnor, who still lives here. His poems were written in both Irish and English.
He was an intimate friend of the "Bard of Thomond", and often visited him in Limerick. The "bard" gave him a copy of his poems, and got in return a copy of David Walsh's poetry, of which he had a high opinion.
He died about thirty years ago, and is buried in his native Rockchapel. A handsome celtic cross marks his last resting place.
