  1. Opposite the present Protestant School, and between the road and the river, there is a large field or inch known as the "Bleach".
In 1748 Thomas Adderly established the linen industry in Innishannon. He brought over some skilled weavers from France, and built a range of houses for them, as well as providing them with looms, a bleach yard, and other conveniences. The water and climate were found to be suitable for bleaching the linen, and the industry flourished there for a long time. The field at present known as the "Bleach" was the site of the bleach yard.
