Dunmanway it is paid to Mr. O'Sullivan, and he in turn has to pay a certain sum, of about £100 every year to Lady Bandon. Then the man who collects the tolls of the town gets 3d on every pig sold and 1 1/2 d on every hen.
Each buyer has his own mark by which he marks the animals, to indicate that they are sold. Some use the beast scissors, while others use the blue pencil or axle grease.
The vendor is usually handed a ticket for the price of his stock and is advised to dispatch them to the railway station or some other place, where his ticket is marked. He then returns to the particular bank, where, the buyer informed him he would be paying out, and here he receives the money for the animals he sold.
In the month of March, every year, there is a special fair for horses. Fairs for pigs are held every month.
