  1. Long ago the Mitchell family who now live in Quarrymount lived in Ballyroan between Abbeyleir and Maryborough. They were very friendly with a Roman Catholic family called MacMahon. Under the Penal laws MacMahons would have lost all their land, but instead of this happening, Mitchells held the MacMahon's for them until the Penal laws were repealed. The friendship between the two families continued for about three hundred years after.
