- (continued from previous page)Barking the Oat was another industry carried on at Desart Court. It was done in the Spring-time when the sap was up in the oak. There were little instruments like hoes for getting the bark off. They first used to scrape off the moss. Then they used to rick the bark and after some time they used to hire horses & carts to bring it to the tanning factory in Thomastown for tanning leather.
