    But if you dont do it damn quickly
    We'll shoot you dead where you stand."

    Said Jack "You may torture me here till you kill me",
    And then he knelt down on the sod,
    Saying "before I would burn the chapel
    I'd freely go back before God."
    He opened his coat and his waistcoat,
    His broad heaving bosom made bare,
    Saying "drive the ball straight-through my heart here."
    He began then uttering a prayer.

    Says Moulds "tis inhuman to ask him,
    See how he refuses the pelf,
    And as I would think it an honour,
    I'll burn the chapel myself."
    Then they wanted fire to light it,
    For in those days you couldn't get a match,
    Says Val, "I'll do it dam quickly,"
    So he discharged his gun in the thatch.

    When the chapel was furiously burning
    Those hell-hounds did furiously shout,
