  1. Mr Michael Cuffe now living in town here told me of the existenceof a "Hedge School" at the site of the present bridge crossing the railway line at "Arm" Castlerea.
    This man is 92 years old and tells of how he and others attended at this school but the master "Mulligan" taught English and Arithmetic and Mensuration! He does not remember the Master speak Irish! Mr Cuffe has fought with the British Army in 7 Wars.
