    The Last Words of Burchell. (1870)

    I

    Burchells lamentation sounds
    through all the nation.
    His fathers desolation, I mean to let you know,
    Drumshambo, Keash, and Leitrim,
    It grieves me for to leave -
    When I think of those false traitors who,
    Have sent me to my grave.
    II
    Tom Glynn did all he could
    He was fond of human blood;
    Three assizes there he stood, till at last he ended me.
    Now I am going to die upon the gallows tree
    And I am as innocent of Cox's murder
    As the child upon your knee
