  1. There used to be men living in this district who could make baskets out of rods, but this craft has cased.
    In older times, candles were made out of the dried insides of rushes plaited and dipped in some oil.
    Flax was prepared for markets at home by being dried and afterwards 'beetled' or broken with a wooden mullet on a stone and stretched with a wooden blade by women. During the operation, the flax was held on a wooden standard called a "Stalb"(?).
