    A long time ago there lived a boy called Jack. Jack was a lazy boy, who would not work.
    One day he made up his mind to work. He got a day work on a farm. At the end of the day the farmer gave him a penny for his wages. Jack put it in his pocket, but there was a hole in the pocket, and he lost it. Jack's mother was vexed at the loss of the penny. "You foolish boy," said she. "You should have held it in your hand." "I will do so the next time," said Jack. The next day Jack got an old cat for his wages. He took the cat home in his hands, as he wished to obey his mother.
