  1. Long ago there were no candles like now And they got rushes and put the wax into a long dish and melted it and then they put the rushes into it and let it get hard on the rushes.
    Sometimes they got pieces of pith-pine and and they put a heap of them in a corner beside the fire and when they would want to go up stairs they would light one of them.
