  1. Long ago there was a landlord in every district. The landlord who had the district of Ballincurry was John Thomas Knox. Ballincurry was put up for auction and Mr Knox took it over.
He was a very bad landlord. He evicted the people when they couldn't pay the rents. He evicted nearly the whole district. He took the farms and the people had to flee to foreign lands. To some few he gave back their farm again. The people did not like Mr Knox. He had no pity for his tenants when they didn't pay the rents regularly and up to date.
The landlord lived in Ballina before he got possession of Ballincurrig.
Some years ago the Land Commission bought the lands of Mr Knox and there was no land lord ever since.
