    to lead them on to Manorhamilton, across the cannon road. To see him better in the dark they made him put on a white coat, when he proceeded a short distance on the mountain, he turned to the left and came to the top of the cliff, the story says that he pointed out to them the lights of the Glencar houses, which were then very numerous and told the military that they were just outside Manorhamilton. The officer told him to continue as quickly as he could and McSharry's who knew the place very well, jumped down in a small cleft in the cliff and the officer thinking he had gone before him started in pursuit with the result that man after man and horse after horse went over the fave of the cliff which at this point was about 200 ft. heigh.
