    About sixty years ago great rivalry was between the owners of dogs, because, every man thought his dog the best, and the used to have great fights in the nightime in the fields with them. The was one great mongrel of a dog who was "champion" he was between a (mongrel) bulldog, a Collie, and he was almost as big as an ass. There was a man in Creggbonall the name of Cullen who boasted a fighting ass. So the dog and ass were matched, the dog belonged to a man named Gillen. The night they fought was a lovely night and the moon was full. It was midnight. It was fought in the yard behind (our Erin Cottage. As soon as the ass saw the dog he
