- Long ago when the Danes were in Ireland they could make wine from the heather which grew on the mountains.
After the battle of Clontarf there were but two Danes left on the battle-field, an old man and his son. The Irish Chiefs said they would spare them if they told them the secret of the wine making. The old man said he would tell them the secret, if they killed his son.
