  1. A Local Happening
About a mile from Ballylongford in the townland of Ahanagran there is situated an old fort owned by Richard Mackessy. One evening he found that his pony was missing. Himself and his family searched the whole farm but the pony could not be found.
They went to bed thinking that the pony would turn up in the morning. When morning came, they went out again to look for the pony, but to their great surprise they found him hanging off a tree in the fort. He got caught between two branches and he was held fast.
