There are many old customs associated with May Eve. The fairies are much thought of in connection with it.
I live in a farm in the townland of Ahanagram. On May Eve, we brought leaves off the Summer tree and put them over the door, because they are supposed to keep out the fairies. My father got a crock of the Holy Water and shook it on the gardens so that they would produce good crops for the rest of the year. He also shook it on the cattle and horses.
