  1. There were many bad winters locally especially the one of 1882 when the big wind came.
    The signs of storm and good weather are as follows -
    If a crane is seen going up a river or if a horse or donkey is seen with is his back to a hedge or wall it is the sign of rain. It is also a sign of storm to see the blue blazes in the fire or a cat with her back to it.
    If the mountains look blue or a fog in the hollows or if the sun sets red it is the sign of good weather.
