  1. About three hours after a death the corpse is washed by a neighbour or relative. Some people keep two special candle-sticks for use at the station and when a person dies in the village these are usually borrowed.
    It is an old custom to stop the clock when a person dies so that those who come into the house will know at what time the person died. This custom is nearly gone our of practice in this district nowadays.
