fairies if he was building it on their pass and if he said it was the man would not build it in that position. Irish men were not supposed to know how to build chimneys in former times until "John Bull" came over to civilise us. It is said that their were no windows in the houses in olden times. They had only air hole in the side wall to let in air. For light they used sticks that were found in bog. Later on rush candles were used then tallow candles which you would have to hide carefully so that the cat would not eat them.
