When Cromwell was executing the Catholics the nuns in the convent of Killester were flying from the convent to safety and the soldiers tried to kill them. A very holy nun named Ester was escaping, and the soldiers cried out "Kill Ester". The holy nun was killed. From that onward the place was called Killester.
