- Shrove Tuesday falls six weeks before Easter and there are a few superstitions in connection with it. On that day people always make pancakes and long ago they used to put rings, buttons and thimbles inside them.
There was usually a party on that night and whoever got the ring, it was thought that they would be the first of that company to be married. Whoever would get the button would be a bachelor and the person, who would get the thimble, would be an old maid.- Collector
