The Marquis of Cunningham is supposed to have got his estate in MtCharles as the result of a bet.

The Marquis of Cunningham is supposed to have got his estate in mt.charles as the result of a bet. Several boats including his were at sea. The land round mt.charles was promised to the man who touched land first. A race commenced. After a while the Marquis saw that his chance of reaching land first was small so he cut off one hand & threw it ashore. in this way he won and got the land.
