in the year 1487 the crown was taken from its head and placed upon the head of Lambert Simnel in Christ Church Cathedral. On the despoiling of St. Mary's Abbey the statue was torn from its altar and cast into the flames. Fortunately it was carried away before the flames had disfigured it and was concealed head downwards in the yard of an adjacent where it was used as a trough from which horses drank. In the course of time it was removed and enthroned in St. Michans Penal Chapel.
