  1. There was once a man living in Carn in a little house with his wife.
One night himself and his wife were sitting beside the fire. The old man was looking into the fire and suddenly he looked down [?] and he saw a man sitting on a chair near it. He said good night to him and the man answered but he could not know what he was saying. He asked him where he came from, the [?] answered but he could not be understood by the old man or woman.
The strange man took a paper out of his pocket and rolled it and made some fag and smoked them. The old man went to fix the fire and when he turned round again the man was gone.
The old man went back and the door was locked so he did not know how this man could have got in or out.
