- It is said that when a person in the family is going to die, the night before the death, "the bibe" comes along the road near the house and starts roaring.
The tenth of Nov. is called St. Martin's night, and all the old people kill a cock and sprinkle some of the blood on the four corners of the house in honour of St. Martin. This keeps away any sickness from the house for the year. They also keep the rest of the blood, and if anyone in the family has a headache he make the sign of the cross on the forehead and the pain goes away.
Michaelmas Eve night, on that night a goose is played in cards, the goose was then called "Michaelmas Goose"
On Christmas Eve night a big fire is made and the door is left opened, and a long lighted candle is left on the window for our Blessed Lady and St. Joseph to find the way to Bethlehem, and also to invite them into the house for shelter.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
