  1. 1. Candles.
    They used to peel the rushes and then dip them in fat. When the candle industry died down, they used to make oil lamps by putting a hole in the lid of a small tin box and pulling a wick of corduroy through the lid.
    Bog deal lights made from chips of bog deal were sometimes used as candles.
    2. Baskets.
    Long ago baskets were made for going to the shop and for holding clothes, with sally rods which had been boiled and peeled. They also made baskets for straining potatoes from green rods. On some of these baskets they put a rim
