On St. Stephen's Day men and boys and, sometimes, girls dress themselves up in straw and old clothes and go around (from) in "gangs" from house to house collecting money. one of the gang carries a holly bush decorated with coloured papers and streamers. A few supply the music and following are rhymes others sing or said:-
1. "The wren, the wren, the King of all Birds
On St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,
Up with the kettle and down with the pan
Give us a penny and let us be gone"
2. "As I was going to Killenaule
I met a "van" [?] upon the wall
