  1. Long ago there was a hedge school along the Arderda road, Parish of Laragh and county of Cavan. It was a low thatched school made of stones and earth.
    It was a master taught in it. The seats were all joined together. There were blackboards in it. The subjects that were taught were Grammar, Arithmetic, Catechism and Argiculture.
    They never wrote much. The kind of pen they wrote with was a quill pen. They were taught their prayers in Irish but that was all the Irish they
