- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)nowadays. They had their support about eight o'clock. Potatoes were always for the supper. They were roasted in the ashes. Bacon was the meat they used and they did not get much of it either. They only got tea at Christmas and Easter and other feast days. It was an old custom to light a fire outside in the open and boil eggs. This custom is still kept up in my locality. The night before Ash Wednesday pancakes were made and eaten. On the first of November they had barm brack, apples and nuts. Many tricks were played on this night. Most of these customs are still carried on. Kathleen Larkin
