  1. Long ago people travelled along the roads on foot. They were very poor people and had to beg their living. Some of these people still go round and we call them "gipsies". They sold porringers or tin pans, and other things made from tin. The men would make the things and the women and children went round the country selling them.
    Some of the women could make the lace and they taught their children to make lace, and they sold it round the country. Some of them had horses and carts and others had caravans. They put up tents and slept in them at night. They were called travellers because they travelled on foot. They lighted
