Whilst Cromwell was in Ireland he came to lay siege to Muff Castle, which was situated in the townland of Muff Parish of Kingscourt, Co. Cavan. The owners of the castle - a family named OReilly - were warned of Cromwell's approach. They at once collected all the gold which they possessed, tied it securely in a mule skin, and buried it in Cordoagh bog, townland of Cardoagh, Parish of Kingscourt, Co. Cavan.
