- Very few shops in this district some years ago and very few went to the local towns.
The old people sold their cattle after Mass at Clifferna Chapel - money was not always given at these transactions - a horse say would be given in exchange for two cows and so on. The halter was always left on the horse as it was not considered lucky to remove it from the horse's head.
It was also considered unlucky to buy or sell anything on 1st May or on a Sunday.
