    The people long ago used to make candles when they would want them.

    Beautiful fine lace was made in Newtownbarry long ago. It ws commenced by Mr. Halldare's mother and Mrs. Bond, Mill Cottage, Bunclody, was one of the lacemakers It was, a lady who saw it says, much superior to the Carrickmacross or Limerick lace and was of a different kind. It was worked on linen with linen threads and Mrs. Bothe of , Newtownbarry has several pieces of it yet as it did not easily wear, or tear in washing.
    Soap was made from fat, soda and other ingredients.
    Clogs were made in Bunclody till twenty years ago.
