- Leap castle is situated about half way between Roscea and Kinnity and it is about five miles south of Birr. It was formerly owned by O'Carroll of Ely, by whom it was built. It was the seat of Mr. Darby until nineteen eighteen when it was ruthlessly burned to the ground by the "Shin Féiners".
