  1. Long ago, a man named John Gorman lived in Rhode village?.
    He was noted for cutting both hay and turf. People who could not cut their own hay or turf would engage him. He would get up at 2 o clock in the morning and cut meadow and he would have it finished at 7 o clock. He was also a noted storyteller. He could cut a patch?? of turf in a day no matter how hot?? it was.
    Some years ago a man named Ned Cox lived in Tubberdaly. He was a famous storyteller.
    All the Tubberdaly men would make for Rhode to hear the stories.
    A woman named Biddy Scott who lived in Green Hill long ago was able to catch rabbits and hares by running after them.
    Some years ago a man named Joe Killmurray was a great runner. He held the championship of Offaly for three year in succession.
    A man named John O'Toole was a noted weight thrower. It is said that he was looking at six men trying to lift a large stone up into a horses cart in fahy gu?? quarry.
