- The old people were great experts in many kinds of handicrafts namely spinning and weaving, making of candles and soap, making of baskets and various other articles. There was a spinning wheel in almost every house, which was used by the women and girls of the family for turning out their own cotton thread and worsted. Cotton thread was got from flax and worsted was got from wool. The worsted was woven by the men and boys in those days. A kind of material called "Linsey" was spun from the cotton thread. This was probably another name for linen which was also woven from the flax into underclothing and other coarse cloth.
