- There was a hedge-school in this district. It was in a barn of John Murphy, Leggah, Moyne, County Longford. The man who taught in this school was not a stranger. He belonged to this district. His name was Kiernan.
In some places school was carried on in farmers houses. Teachers lodged in those houses. The teacher got five shillings a quarter from each pupil. Those teachers taught English Geography and Mathematics. Irish was not taught by masters nor it was not ta spoken by the pupils.
