- These facts were told by my father Dan Kenny aged 53 years a native of Empor.
A lot of people died with hunger the time of the famine. It was called black forty seven.
The potatoes were all black and the oats rotted. The year before the famine all the big farmer's carted their potatoes out to a field and threw them in drains, as they had too much and had no room for them.
That year of the famine the people had nothing to eat only Indian meal it was called the poor meal at that time, and the people would go to the shop and get their meal.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
