Taking a cross on his back each time, he came home late in the night, tired and weary, but proud of his burden.
At last he got his crosses erected, and soon the news spread through the whole country that Kieran's Cross were unequaled in all Ireland.
Many a longing and a envious glance was cast at them by the neighbouring saints.
At last Colmcille unable to resist any longer determined that he would enrich himself with some of Kieran's Crosses.
Going out on two successive nights he carred off two of the finest.
