- The Dunboyne estate to Maynooth college under circumstances of the most unusual kind. John Butler, Lord Dunboyne studied for priesthood as a young man but owing to the loss of an eye his ordination was delayed until this canonical impediment had been removed by a dispensation from Rome. After some years he was appointed to the See of Cork over which he reigned as Bishop for twenty-three years. On the death of his nephew Pierce Butler eleventh Baron Dunboyne in the year 1785 Bishop Butler succeeded to the title and estates. Thereupon(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
