1. Barney Courtney, the local Church warden, also,
when required, delivers telegrams. He tells
an amusing story of an experience he once had. He
delivered a telegram in Clermont and on his way home in the dusk, a terrific shower overtook him. He
sheltered a the Heynestown Protestant Church & had scarcely done so when a human skull (there is a graveyard adjoining) bounded out & stopped in front of him, while a pair of eyes glared at him from the skull. At first thoroughly scared, Barney at last plucked up courage and moved over to investigate. He turned the skull over very gingerly with his stick and immediately a squirrel jumped out & pranced away.
